This Generation's Captain of Industry: Amazon's Monopoly Effect on Small Businesses
By: Nicole Robinson
Over the last several decades, Amazon’s business has expanded globally to provide
merchandise to the average consumer. This online retailer’s profitability has increased due to the influx of demand for quick and easily accessible products. The gradual progression of this company has transformed into one of the biggest monopolies in this generation. As Amazon
rises, small businesses fall short in competition with the e-commerce giant’s defrayed prices and online presence. Keep a lookout! The doors of the local store in your community just might be closing and here is why.
In the last decade, Amazon has inserted it’s dominance in the market of consumer goods. More than half of online shopping searches originate from the site. This monopoly has forced thousands of small or midsize businesses to go out of business or to depend on Amazon to
market their products.
Small businesses are expected to adapt to this new wave of change. If a business is to prosper in the age of e-commerce promoted by online retailers such as Amazon, they must create an online presence. Amazon can help small businesses succeed, but not without taking away the satisfaction of growing their company or brand in a city near you.
Amazon is the third biggest digital ad seller and have made changes to applying for these ads in hopes of making it easier to understand. Although, digital ads assist in keep sinking businesses afloat, it still takes away from more traditional advertising options. There are just
some products that can not be sold online. Digital ads would replace the common hospitality and experience of going into a store and choosing a product. Local businesses thrive of societal
support and fellowship and online shopping takes away this element.
The verdict of whether Amazon is the problem or just the spearhead of a new age still is out. However, what can be said for sure, small business will suffer for it.

Boys Will be Boys
By: Graysen Montel
“It’s not their fault, its normal, healthy even”
Boys will be boys
They will stomp, and shout and cry out
They will throw things, and break things
They will bite and scratch and hit and kick
What can we say? Boys will be boys
They will play rough
They will torment others and be naughty
They will tie knots, and like guns, and watch violent shows and stare at women
So,
Girls will be girls
They will not give up, they will fight back, they will not stay silent,
They wont forgive or forget or “just drop it”
Girls will be girls
They will buy brass knuckles
And travel in groups to the bathroom and not walk at night
They will cover their drinks and hold their keys like weapons
And they will carry pepper spray
Girls will be girls
Because
“Boys will be boys”
